LaTeX Workshop: Providing core features for LaTeX typesetting. I already wrote some LaTeX is VSCode so I had some idea about how to configure it the way I wanted it to be. I am pretty used to Visual Studio Code as it is my main IDE. I was just not confortable enough with Vim so I decided to switch once again. LaTeX files can get long pretty fast and the whole compilation process was not as good as I wanted it to be. I think that I needed an IDE with more features than vim when working with LaTeX documents. This plugin is just amazing! It works perfectly and the possibilities are endless.Īfter using Vim as my main LaTeX editor for a week, I was not really convinced about it… I used the UltiSnips plugin as my main snippet engine. The “live” compilation mechanism took me a long time to set up and SyncTex was not working properly. Vim was pretty hard to configure correctly. I was familiar with Vim keybindings so that was not an issue at all for me. I already knew the blog post from Gilles Castel, How I’m able to take notes in mathematics lectures using LaTeX and Vim (which I highly recommend you to read), so I decided to take notes in Vim. LaTeX on VimĪs I decided to take my notes in LaTeX, I needed an IDE to write LaTeX more easily. It is because of all these reasons that I decided to switch from Markdown to LaTeX even though I knew that I will not be able to have the same WYSIWYG quality as in Typora. I needed a better snippets support to write faster.I wanted to include some LaTeX packages but that was not possible due to the fact that Typora is using MathJax to render equations.Files containing a lot of math or code fences were starting to lag, there was some delay when typing. This markdown setup was great and I enjoyed using it for a while until some issues came up: I found the AutoKey application which allowed me to define some snippets that I could use in any desktop application, Typora included. One issue that I had with Typora is that it did not have a way to create and use snippets (textual shortcuts).Īs I were typing a lot of math during lectures, I needed a way to write math faster. I really liked taking notes in Markdown using Typora as it was easy to use and WYSIWYG was very convenient. I is a WYSIWYG application that has support for math equations preview, images copy-paste, code fences, diagrams, etc. Typora is, by far, the best Markdown editor available. Markdown note takingīefore switching to LaTeX, I was taking notes in Markdown using the Typora editor. I went through a lot of different writing environments before settling with LaTeX on VSCode. I decided to take notes during lectures with LaTeX and this is how I set up my LaTeX writing environment.
